Privacy policy
Last updated: 23 June 2026
The short version.
Eat Matters is built local-first: your recipes live on your device. We don’t sell your data, we show no ads, and we use no third-party advertising or tracking SDKs. Information leaves your device only when you sign in to sync, import a recipe, use an AI feature, make a purchase, or contact us — and only to the service providers needed to do those things.
1. Who we are
This policy explains how the Eat Matters mobile app and the website at eatmatters.app (“Eat Matters”, “we”, “us”) handle your information. If you have any questions, contact us at support@eatmatters.app.
2. What we collect
We only collect what the app needs to work. Depending on how you use it, that includes:
- Account information — if you choose to sign in with email, Apple or Google, we receive your email address and, where available, your name and profile picture. Sign in with Apple may give us a private relay email instead of your real one.
- Your content — the recipes, meal plans, shopping lists, cooking history and photos you create or import in the app.
- Profile & preferences — settings you choose, such as dietary restrictions, nutrition goals and app language.
- Import data — when you import a recipe, the link or media you give us (e.g. a social-media post URL or photos) so we can extract the recipe.
- A device identifier — a random ID generated on your device, used to back up your recipes for free and to count your monthly imports. It is not linked to your real-world identity.
- Purchase information — your subscription status and entitlement, handled through Apple, Google and our payments provider. We never see or store your card details.
- Messages you send us — the content, and any screenshot you attach, when you use the in-app contact form or email us.
We do not collect your precise location, your contacts, or advertising identifiers, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
3. How we use your information
- To provide the core app — storing, organising and syncing your recipes, plans and lists across your devices.
- To process recipe imports and AI features (nutrition calculation, the AI dietitian, recipe translation and the smart meal planner).
- To manage your subscription and restore purchases.
- To respond to your support requests and bug reports.
- To keep the service secure, reliable and free of abuse.
4. Who we share it with
We don’t sell your data or share it for advertising. We do rely on a small set of trusted service providers (“subprocessors”) that process data on our behalf, only to deliver the features above:
| Provider | What it does | Data involved |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Cloud database, authentication and file storage (sync & backup) | Account info, your content, device identifier |
| RevenueCat | Subscription management and receipt validation | Purchase / entitlement data, app-store identifiers |
| Google (Gemini) & DeepSeek | AI that reads imported content and calculates nutrition | Imported recipe text/links/photos, ingredient lists |
| Apify | Fetching the public social-media posts you choose to import | The post URL you import |
| Open Food Facts | Looking up nutrition data for ingredients | Ingredient names you search |
| Cloudflare | Website hosting, content delivery and image processing for share links | Standard request data; shared-recipe image |
| Apple & Google | Sign-in, in-app payments and push notifications | Account & purchase data you authorise |
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety and security of our users and the service.
5. AI processing
When you import a recipe or use an AI feature, the relevant content — the link, post text, photo or ingredient list — is sent to our AI providers so they can return a structured recipe, nutrition estimate, translation or meal plan. Because this content is processed by third parties, please avoid putting sensitive personal information into recipes you import or create.
6. Storage, security & retention
Most of your data is stored locally on your device and works fully offline. It is sent to our servers only when you sign in to sync, and is protected in transit with HTTPS encryption and access controls that keep your data scoped to you.
We keep your synced data for as long as you use the app. When you delete your content in the app, or ask us to delete your account, we remove the corresponding data from our systems. Uninstalling the app removes the data stored locally on that device.
7. Your rights & choices
You can:
- Access & edit your recipes, plans and profile at any time inside the app.
- Delete your content via Settings → Delete all recipes.
- Delete your account and synced data by emailing support@eatmatters.app or using Contact the developer in the app.
Depending on where you live (for example under the EU/UK GDPR or the California CCPA), you may also have the right to access, correct, export, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, and to withdraw consent. To exercise any of these, just contact us. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority. Where the GDPR applies, we process your data to perform our contract with you, on the basis of our legitimate interest in running and improving the app, and with your consent where required.
8. Children
Eat Matters is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA), and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll change the “Last updated” date above, and for significant changes we’ll let you know in the app.
